**A Proud Bessemer Native with a Vision for Change**
Omar Chapman is a lifelong resident of Bessemer, Alabama, and a dedicated leader committed to improving the city for all its residents. As the Director of the Bessemer Public Library and an advocate for education, Omar has worked for over a decade to expand resources, promote literacy, and create equitable opportunities for the community. His work has directly impacted the lives of countless individuals, and his passion for progress drives him to seek a seat on the **Bessemer City Council for District 5**, where he aims to bring positive change and greater collaboration between local government, businesses, and residents.

Omar is a two-time graduate of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), holding a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from Alabama A&M University and a Master’s Degree in Library Science from North Carolina Central University. In addition to his leadership roles in the Bessemer Public Library, Bessemer Chamber of Commerce, JCPLA, and JCLC,  he is also an active member of the Public Library Association, the Alabama Library Association, and the NAACP Metro Birmingham Branch.

Omar’s leadership is also shaped by his personal values. He has been married to his high school sweetheart, Tyronica Chapman, for six years, and together they have twin girls, Taylor and Lori.
